Genius Loci

GENIUS LOCI

Genius Loci is Latin for the generic footprint of the place, it refers to the spirit and emotion behind the place, the atmosphere…the vibepowerfulinvitingenchanting

The Romans constructed architectural design with consideration for gods and higher beings, and this was considered the birth of the genius loci, as buildings became sacred, and the way they built and shaped these buildings birthed the powerful spirit within its visuals.

These constructions were built for necessity, protection from elements, constructed from animal Hyde, found materials, bone, fur, a truly natural environment, crafted entirely by hand. These structures were derived for sale, which ties in to the 19th century with structure, shopping experience, and the beginnings of consumption and its place in exchange and how fashion is greatly involved.

ZEITGEIST

Zeitgeist, is all about connections. Connections to people, connections to industry, and connections with us as designers and consumers. It is a very current fashion line, on point, and deeply planned in advance, so much so that one starts to wonder do the fashion design companies design clothes for us, or follow our shopping trends and project them into the future years in fashion..

A two point perspective of te finished Levring House, I love the criss cross of the brick work breaking up the two faces of the design, this is a contemporary aspect I believe based on Zeitgeist.

This beautiful conjunction of textures and form rests easy on the eyes with its comforting shades of bronze and soft oatmeal, that really captures light and energy…

Built around a light-well, this reconstruction of the London light well, allows a soft harmonious array of light through, built up levels encase this central light and elevate the whole building with a soft glow. This construction was an award winner of the RIBA in 2015, and well deserving in my eyes.

Alexander Mcqueen

This is the most trending fashionable garment at that point, you cant get a more current trend than a piece that is literally created on the catwalk at that very instance, this is a very good example of the Zeitgeist and how quickly fashion evolves. I personally love this garment, I feel the idea behind it is fresh, and innovative, as he dare to tread were many designers didn’t even think. He says that fashion is reciprocal and not original, meaning that trends are constantly revolving and being reincarnated if you like into new fresh and seasonal fashion.

In combination with interiors, his fashion is usually the center fold of the attention in the room, but little do people notice, it is the genius Loci of the interior that really creates an ambiance for the garments.

This is a clear demonstration of the spirit of the interior personalizing the garments and filling them with power almost.
